Passionate educator, coach, and qualitative researcher that believes emotions and data come together through targeted stories that uncover actionable insights.
When we see something creative we tend to ask how the creators thought of it. Where did the ideas come from. In this talk I ask how turn ideas into reality. This process starts with a choice to act. As many decisions, this one is influenced by our emotions (e.g., from anxiety-provoking uncertainty to our level of confidence) and we have to cope with them. Because the greatest challenges of creative work pertain to managing the emotional ups and downs – from uncertainties to frustrating obstacles and creative blocks – emotion abilities are key to long-term success. I will present tools that enable us to harness the power of different emotions by learning about emotion-thinking connections, as well as techniques to regulate our feelings when they become overwhelming and get in the way. Finally, I acknowledge that creativity is social even when it the exact act of creation is solitary. Understanding its social side can make a difference between one time and reliable and repeatable creativity.
